Why Copper to Gold?

How I love music!  And for years I have loved the music of Seals and Crofts with their rich harmonies and lyrics that speak to my heart.  In 2004, over 20 years after the release of their last album, the duo released Traces… filled with beautiful rearrangements of some of their earlier songs and the release of 5 more that had never been heard.

One in particular speaks to my heart…

CHANGE THE COPPER INTO GOLD

Change the copper into gold.  Make me what I am not now. There is a secret I should know.  I’d find it but I don’t know how.  Well I got so much inside.  I give it till there’s nothing left.  And the evil one must die, so I can see it through your eyes.

I long to see the snow white falcon as it takes flight.  Far beyond the mountains of love.  Watch the smiths in the village of a thousand dreams untold.  Change the copper into gold.

Change the copper into gold.  Abide forever here inside of me.  Teach me all that I should know.  Release the powers of alchemy.  Fire and water cannot dwell eternally within this mortal shell.  I see the falcon far away.  It’s calling me to come and fly away.

I long to cross the valley of ether.  Hear the songs they sing.  See the Master’s work unfold.  Watch the smiths in the village of a thousand dreams untold.  Change the copper into gold.

(Music and lyrics by James Seals, 2003 from the album Traces – 2004)

I’ve been on this journey called Life for 51 years now… often succeeding, sometimes stumbling, learning from the missteps. but always knowing that He is there to pick me up, dust me off, set me on the road again and continue helping me change copper into gold.
