In the two weeks since I told my Jokerman that I would marry him, I’ve met more of his friends and family than I can keep track of… meeting with approval. And in kind, he’s begun the process of meeting mine and finding instant approval as well. I’ve written about the friendship and bond I share with P & C, one that has only grown deeper and stronger with time. I would do anything in the world for these two precious people and it is incredibly important to me that they feel comfortable with the man I chose to spend the rest of my life with… just as I wanted him to love them as much as I do. Life hasn’t been the same since I became part of their lives. Little did I know what an effect they would have on his as well as him on theirs!
They met at church for the first time on Sunday. I had told P of our plans the day before but we’d decided to wait to tell C about it after he’d met Jokerman and felt comfortable. C has an uncanny sense of people and what they are like in spite of his stroke, though P and I often think that his sense of that is heightened because of the stroke. As I went through songs with the band, I watched the man I love talk and joke with two of the dearest people in my life. C doesn’t usually warm up to men very quickly, but immediately after church was over he pulled me close to his wheelchair and told me in no uncertain terms that “He’s a keeper!”
Yes he is!!! Oh YES HE IS!!!
At the end of our day, we’d promised P that we’d stop by the house to spend a little more time. Little did the fellas (who both LOVE to joke and pull things over on people) know what was about to happen to either one of them… for it was P and I who had a little something up OUR sleeves! This is what we saw as we walked through the door…
Joker has a devil horn headband that flashes off and on… C has his snazzy hat with the hair. Both of them got “dressed up” for the evening unbeknownest to the other one. When they came into view of each other, the looks on their faces were priceless as we all collapsed in laughter. And we realized they even shared the same missing tooth, we laughed harder.
Thus began an evening of talk and laughter over coffee while P and I watched these men build an immediate bond that has touched each one’s heart irreversibly. And the delight on C’s face as we told him we were going to get married is a picture in our minds that we’ll treasure forever.
As we drove away, Jokerman looked over at me and said “I’d do anything in the world for those two people… I love em that much!” So would I sweetheart….. so would I!
